Foyers are very important to me. Here's why:
That's my "foyer." (The runner is absent because it is being cleaned right now). I honestly don't know what the builder was thinking. The door almost hits the stairs when open. And when guests come in, they have to walk through the dining room, even though logically they should go to the left, to the foot of the stairs and entry to the kitchen. But the door is hung backwards for that, and when open, you can't get by it to the left! There is a front porch, so maybe the builder had to sacrifice the foyer because of the street frontage rules? I think we'll someday take the porch out and add a real foyer, but it's pretty low on the list. But anyway, I love these foyers, below, because I'm jealous :)

I'm sure your house is not a mess like mine is, but for us, it would be nice if guests came through the dining room. It's the least used room in the house and is usually the only one that it is neat and tidy all the time. Might be a good first impression for guests, before they see the rest of the house :)
We have a large foyer that hardly ever gets used. Guests come through our small side entry. So, at least you don't have a big foyer to clean.

So many beauties, that first one is a real WOW foyer and love all the ones with the reclaimed floors and love a foyer that has an element of black in it for maximum drama. All gorgeous choices, this is a post I will have to come back to, it has some of my all time favorites but a few that I havent' seen...beautiful!
I love all the inspiration photos you posted. I have been focusing on all my foyer-flaws lately too but have not prioritized that project yet!
Maybe as a quick fix, you could have the door hung the opposite way. We changed some french doors to open in the opposite direction a couple years ago, but I am not sure if the front door would be as easy.
Your house is so gorgeous that I am sure no one even notices the things you don't like!

Thank you Shelley! I DO see everything that's wrong! I did look in to hanging the door the other way, but learned that you can't just buy the door, you have to buy the whole frame with the windows, etc. It was going to be a huge pain to install, too. I'd almost rather wait until we can make it larger and do it right. Great minds think alike though, right? :)

Oh, too funny with the cow wanting in! I love these foyers and especially the one with the dog sitting there. I think your builder may have just taken some shortcuts to save money like so many have.

Our home was designed with a small front entrance, and since I designed it, there's no one to blame but myself!
My logic at the time was to allocate space to the areas that we spent the most time in. I regret the decision now, recognizing that the foyer is the first impression one has of your home. It needs to be functional AND fabulous.
I'm sure your patience will pay off, and when you do tackle the redesign of your foyer, the results will be wonderful!
I told you we were alot alike!!! My foyer is the same exact way for the same exact reasons!! We have had plans drawn up to change it but have put it on the backburner for now! These pictures are very inspiring! Thanks for sharing!!!!

Love your blog, but could you please make your pictures bigger, even when I click on them I can't see enough detail. I really like to study the accessories and not just the furniture. God is in the details and I love to see all the things that make up the rooms.

Beautiful, beautiful images! I have to say we have a large entry in our home, which is separate from the living room by a square opening. A couple of people have suggested knocking the wall out to make it a living room but I love having an entry! Of course, I'm having trouble decorating it now!!

I have mine set for one size smaller than the Enchanted Home, the wonderful blog you mentioned. I wish I could make them larger, but they would then spill in to the sidebar. Because I have a lot of sidebar information that I feel is necessary for the purpose of my blog, I have o keep them the size they are. I love foyers because it sets the tone for what's in the rest of the house. I would love to have a foyer like the ones above.
