Video Blog Makeup Tutorial (And All of My Favorite Makeup Products)

Tuesday, April 30, 2013

Ok, skip this post if you don't like makeup.  Or if you are a man.  Do I have any male readers?  I wonder.  Anyway, if you fall into the non-makeup or male categories, just go to my favorite decorating post ever instead, and I'll see you tomorrow. I do not intend to make this a beauty and decorating blog... It will be back to decorating from now on after this post I swear!

I am no kind of makeup artist (or videographer). But I just thought what I've learned over the years (especially from Cara at Maskcara) was worth sharing because it gives a REALISTIC approach to every day makeup, and most of the products are very affordable.

So onto the video.  As you'll see, one side of my face has makeup, one has none.  So in the interest of time, I am only showing you the makeup application on one side.  It also gives you a good before and after. If you can't view it below in your mobile device, you should (hopefully) be able to view on YouTube
 HERE

Oh, by the way, clearly YouTube doesn't want me to post makeup videos. I'm WAY too old and look RI.DIC.U.LOUS next to all of the 20 something girls posting them.  And just to make sure no-one ever views it by accident, YouTube gave me a choice of 3 thumbnails, in all of which I look like I just had a minor stroke.

Well played YouTube, well played.

Ok, it went 3 seconds over - the words cut off are "awesome liner for your lips." And that's it!

PS - HOW AMAZING is the nose thinning trick??  I didn't do a great job in the video because I was rushing, but try it on yourself with any brown pencil, or even powder, that you have. It's my all time favorite makeup trick.

PPS- the reason the skin is so bad around my mouth is that I use Renova at night, and it's totally drying.  If I lay off it for a few days, my skin is a lot better. But I wanted to do this on a day I had dry skin to show you how awesome the foundation is - I'll never buy any other brand I love it so much.

Ok, here is the after shot I took of myself.  It is so blurry .... I can't get a good one because PhotoBooth always comes out ridiculously low quality and blurry for me (and I ate lunch before I took it so my lipstick is gone):

*And here are all the products I used:

1.  Primer: Tarte Cosmetics Clean Slate Flawless 12-Hr Brightening Primer 1 fl oz:

2.  Tarte Cosmetics Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Full Coverage Foundation 1.7 fl oz., in Light Color:

3.  Anastasia Brow Powder Duo (Medium Ash / Medium Brown):

4. LORAC Starry-Eyed Baked Eyeshadow Trio in "Superstar" Bronze:

5. Urban Decay WHISKEY 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil:

6.  Revlon Grow Luscious Mascara & Lash Enhancer Mascara in Blackest Black:

7.  Guerlain Terracotta Moisturizing Bronzing Powder Face Bronzers in "Terracotta #1":

8.  Mineral Fusion Blush in "Airy" (it is actually PINK like below, not the brown shown in the link):

9.  Urban Decay Eyeshadow in "Zephyr":

10.  NYX Concealer Stick in "Yellow":

11.  Benefit Cosmetics Boi-Ing Concealer in "Light":

12.  CoverGirl Perfect Blend Eye Pencil in "Mink":

13.  Pur Minerals 4-in-1 Pressed Mineral Makeup SPF 15 Golden Medium:

14.  Tarte Cosmetics Amazonian Clay Pressed Mineral Powder in "Light":

15.  I didn't mention this one in the video, but this is a much heavier, thick powder, but it's not cakey.  I love it for nighttime: MAC Studio Fix Powder Plus Foundation  in color NC35:

16.  Eco Lips Lip Balm in Plush Red (a great universally flattering red that you can make light or dark, and that makes teeth look whiter):

17.  And finally,  the eye serum that I used in the beginning of the video that I love:

Here is the post about the serum with before and after photos, and here is the link if you just want to buy it.

 IMPORTANT:
*I linked to all of the products on Amazon because they were all there in one place (it was easier).  I get a ridiculously small commission if you buy there.... 80 cents if you buy a $20 makeup.  If 50 of you did this, I might be able to buy a nice bottle of wine.  But I'm not looking for you to buy at Amazon - I don't care about the commissions or where you buy.  It is just the easiest way to show you everything- you can put everything you want in your cart, print it, and then go to Ulta or another good makeup store and buy in person.  You may need to do that for colors anyway.  Unless you are my coloring, I'd recommend seeing the foundations and things in person anyway, and NOT just buying on Amazon (with the exception for the Lorac eyeshadow - it looks awesome on everyone - Google it to see!)

Oh - one last thing - I LOVE this oil for my hair.  I have been blond, brown, then back to blond, and my hair was SO dry.  My hairdresser told me to use this, and it has brought my hair back to health.  You apply a dime (I actually use more, but they say a dime) sized amount when wet, then blow dry as usual.  I'm including it because even though it's not really makeup, it seems appropriate for this post.  If you have dry hair, it is s Godsend.  And it smells amazing.  Sometimes I don't wear perfume because I love the smell of my hair so much.  I LOVE it:

Thank you for watching my first ever (and probably ONLY ever) vlog!!
See you tomorrow,
Stacy

Design Crush: Jeff Andrews

I was just browsing the work of Jeff Andrews of Jeff Andrews Design.  His work is right up my alley -- glass tiles, reflective paint, mirrors, mirrors and more mirrors. He clearly tends toward the masculine design style, which appeals to me.
