Welcome to Post 2 of Architecture Week! Today I am writing about doors. Normally, a partially closed door in someone else's home means it is off limits. To me, it feels more like an invitation. I just need to see what's in the next room. Now don't get me wrong, if it is clearly a closet or someone in the bathroom, I'm not gonna barge right in (unlike my kids, to whom a closed bathroom door is the equivalent of a formally engraved signed in blood invitation to enter). And a wide open doorway, well that is an invitation to enter, right? The room beyond the doorway is always beckoning me to come see it. I know it is rude of me, but I just can't stop myself.
A few Halloweens ago, we went trick or treating in a very large neighborhood where all of the houses were atop steep hills. Normally, I wouldn't feel the need to climb each hill with the kids. But this particular neighborhood was very high end. So, I spent the whole night peering over the kids' heads as front doors opened, trying desperately to get a glimpse of what was beyond the foyers. At one house, I guess I was a little too rude, because the homeowner snipped at me "Are you wanting to come in?" It wasn't really an invitation, so I politely declined and tried to be more surreptitious after that. My husband was mortified.
Are you hopelessly
This just might be the coolest thing I've ever seen:
You'd have to start a garage band with a door like this, right?
SO cool:
What an amazing entry to a bookstore:

You had me laughing out loud about the trick or treating - I am exactly the same way! I loved the barn doors especially and the book store - genius! Beautiful post Stacy!
Oh yes I am VERY curious as well...I think it goes along with anyone who loves homes and design, don't you? We are inately curious and wanting to see, we are harmless though and besides that snippity neighbor should have taken it as a compliment:) Beautiful post on so many gorgeous doors!
I love doors and gates so this was a delightful post to look at, Thank you for all the eye candy, Kathysue
PS I forgot to tell you, the same thing happened to me but I was the homeowner, I was a little more friendly than your person, I let them come in and look. I thought it was cute at how curious they were. KS
