First and foremost, I want to thank Jena at Involving Color  for featuring my house in the Inspiration Files of on her blog today.  Even if you have already seen my house as a reader of this blog, you should head on over and see the rest of her features - they are really amazing and you can browse by room type or color. It's my new obsession!

As Americans are kicking of one of the biggest weekends of the year, celebrating our country's independence and freedoms, I, of course, am browsing red, white and blue rooms.  Just kidding - I'm on my way to the beach with every other person who lives around here.  But I did find some really inspirational patriotic rooms and exteriors last night that I want to show you.  I also asked my six and ten year old what they think the holiday means, and here's what they said:

Six year old: "I think it's to celebrate the people who made the country....  Our country is great because of the flag....The flag means our country is great because it has love and the sky and the grass and flowers." (Oh how I would love to live in her world of butterflies, sunshine and flowers :)

Ten year old: "Now our country has freedom of speech, religion, stationing rights, and more.  We're allowed to think, say and believe whatever we want.  Our country is a democracy instead of a dictatorship so we get to choose who we want and have less conflict.  There is a lot of conflict going on in the Middle East and we're lucky that it's not happening here. We are lucky that laws can be voted in and are not made by one person."  He's really into war of any sort, hence "stationing rights" at the beginning of his answer!

My family and I want to say thank you from the bottom of our hearts to all of our military service men and women, and the families that they leave behind. Your courage and sacrifice is remembered not just this weekend, but every day of our lives.
