A reader last night left a comment that she was "so over" the homes I was posting because they were so perfect and didn't look lived in. It kind of bummer me out! I wanted to explain that the reason that I post interiors by famous designers (and not so famous ones like myself) is that I think inspiration can be found everywhere. I post them to show the gorgeous colors, patterns, textures, arrangements, ideas, etc. Truth be told, my home is almost NEVER "photo ready." I have children and a pool -- put that together and you can guess what the house looks like: bathing suits on the decks, towels everywhere, water on the kitchen floor, juice boxes left in the grass, and flip flops at the back door. And I wouldn't have it any other way. Of course we all should live in the moment and not sacrifice a moment of fun for the sake of a perfect home. In fact, those everyday messes caused by crazy children are what make a house perfect. So, while I gaze on these "perfectly arranged" homes in magazine and blogs, I try not to let them make me feel somehow inferior. Anyone can clean up a house and get it photo ready....the trick lies in making the home beautiful but at the same time loving and full of family and fun, like I imagine these that I focus on today are:

Well don't we all read blogs for the inspiration? Tell that hater to go somewhere else with her whiny comments! If I see one pic that gives me a thought, I am thrilled~so while I know people don't live in museums, I can still get something from a "perfect" home photo.
I guess that reader needs to go find some ugly blogs for inspiration. Really? Real family homes are almost never photo ready. It would be strange if they were. So we look to lovely spaces for inspiration & ideas. She doesn't make sense. Post on, Stacy! Those photos were fabulous:) I love pulling out little nuggets of inspiration from all places!
She just "Unliked" my Facebook page...oh well, better off I guess. It was my first negative comment....maybe I shouldn't have said anything but I find it so hard not to respond, although I wasn't rude at all!
Ahh darling you can't please everyone and what is important is that you are having a great time doing your blog and finding inspiration everywhere! I agree that our homea are not perfect but we live in them and that just that! Take heart that there are more who enjoy your posts and find loads of eye candy even if we don't use it , it is great to unwind and do what i call a good dose of Day dream Believing!! Keep it up and for a new blogger like myself I love to come and see all your images and dream!! Thanks.

I've got enough of a mess in my own house... I don't need to look at other people's messes :) Keep on doing what you're doing, and don't let someone else's negativity get you down.

When someone doesn't recognize the purpose of your blog, it's only natural to respond by clarifying what you're trying to convey in your posts. The images we include in our blogs are reflections of our own design styles, our ability to appreciate beauty, and our need to dream (big!).
You have great style and class, both as a designer and as a person.
Keep doing what you're doing!
I agree with what everyone here is saying - keep doing the beautiful job you are doing...we all have those messes at home - we don't need to look at more as a hobby! :) But yes, as you said, the kids (and their messes) are what makes a house come alive, so it must be that way...but the beautiful homes are what inspire me so that when I want to clean up, it's rewarding! Beautiful images here btw - I loved the turquoise accents in so many rooms especially! Keep going!!!

Stacey, I am so sorry someone was mean spirited. I go to blogs to see inspiration and ideas that I might like to do,if I want to look at realism I can go into my own laundry room. There is nothing wrong in showing the images that inspire you. I am glad that you do. You and I have so much in common as you pointed out on the lipstick issue!!! I love everything you post, even if it isn't my style. There is so much "DIY not ready for prime time crap" posted on the blogs. I always get excited to see that you have a new post because I know I am going to be treated to yummy eye candy. And every single one of your images is beautiful and unique. The gal who posted that CRAPPY comment needs to learn some manners. If you don't like it, unsubscribe, and keep your nastiness to yourself.

Another gorgeous post...love every one but oh my word that first house is perfection!! Don't you hate the haters?? If she doesn't like what you are doing then there are what 5 million other blogs she can go waste her time looking at!! Geez....kind of got a same kind of email..hum probably the same person and I wrote her back (though I vowed i wouldn't, it was just eating me up) and said something to the effect that I learned long ago " you cannot be all things to all people" and by doing what I am doing i am being true to what I want and like, and it will appeal to some and turn others off, nothing I can do about it. Same to you Stacy...STAY TRUE to what you love doing, we love you for it!
PS part of the fun with blogging is dreaming and "getting away" to beautiful places and gorgeous dreamy homes. Clearly this person is not reaping the real rewards from visiting blogs. To me, the prettier and more gorgeous.......the better! BRING IT ON:)
I guess I fail to see why a person would look at the lovely blog postings and then rant about being 'over it'. Its easy enough not to look. I, for one, love your aesthetic and drool over the eye candy that you post. The pictures are definitely inspirational and if they make anyone feel inferior then they have other issues. Keep up the excellent work ... your taste so mirrors mine but, I don't have to have it all to enjoy it.
Thank you for continuing to do what you do. I love your blog, find it inspiring, well edited and an escape from 'home'! Don't let this one comment de-rail you!

I stand 100% with you. Honestly. I post about amazing houses, about multi-million dollar houses that I will only be able to have if God really, really helps me. Otherwise, it will be only in my dreams. But guess what? I love seeing them and I know my readers also do. Besides, we all can feel inspired by it and sometimes we can try to get the "look" to our own homes. It's all about open our eyes and imagine.
Have that said, I understand that we also should be realistic at times and post places where we all can have, looks we all can achieve. I also post simpler spaces. But being criticized for what you post isn't the way to go. If you love a blog, keep reading, if it's not what you want to see, just move on and respect someone's work. It's only fair and smart.
Keep make us dream with your gorgeous posts! Don't change a thing! SVP! ;-)

I really wish people who don't have positive and nice things to say on other people's blogs would just, well, bugger off! It's a free service, it's your blog, kind of an online diary, so you are entitled to put whatever the bloody hell you like on it. I keep reading blogs where the writer has been upset about a nasty comment, and I just don't know why these people bother commenting at all. If you don't like the blog posts, go somewhere else. As for perfect houses, as a magazine stylist I can tell you there is no such thing. For years I worked photographing houses, and 99.9% of the time we had to bring in truckloads of props and redecorate and style for a day to make the house look magazine perfect. Unless it's been designed to the nth degree by an interior designer and perfectly staged for the shoot, then it usually requires tweaking. We all know these houses probably don't look like this on a day to day basis, but we can all use beautiful inspiration and get ideas and thoughts for how we can aspire to achieve something a little like it. Keep posting your lovely photos and ideas Stacey, and we will keeping reading.
