I think one of the most important things in design, after color and flow, is the details. Many, many people have good taste and can buy great looking furniture and put it where it belongs. But the problem, it seems, is what to do from there to make the room look finished. I'd say 25% of my clients just want me to help them with the details. Like the realtor who speaks of "location, location, location," I'm often talking to clients about "details, details, details." Nothing frustrates me more when I help a client do all of the major pieces, floor plan, painting etc., and then they want to stop because they think the room is "done." I try to convince them that a good room can go to a stunning room in the accessorizing, but sometimes they just don't believe me about how important it is. Do any of you have that problem? That and the men who I can't convince to paint any wood -- my two biggest client pet peeves! (Although I have a project in the midst now where the husband [reluctantly] said yes to painting the trim white... a first for me). Anyway, I thought I'd post some images where I think the details make the room.

This next one reminds me of Martyn Lawrence Bullard's use of acrylic boxes to house the client's Jimmy Choo shoes (was it Jimmy Choo? Not sure....) on Million Dollar Decorators. I kind of wish he had used cloches so that the shoes could be held (although given their value, I can see why he encased them).

Oh Stacy I couldn't agree more about detail, it really can make or break a scheme. You have compiled so many wonderful examples here and so much inspiration! I adore the grey chest of draws with the strong bust combined with the glass, without any one of those items the balance will change and loose it's impact. I also love the red flower vases along the centre of the table, objects repeated can make such an amazing statement can't they? I plan to make time to sit tomorrow and go through your fabulous blog! You are so right but it's a good reminder though that taking one risk (or two) in a room is really what takes it to the next level - great examples of that here! YOUR BLOG IS STUNNING and there are many pictures here that I must STUDY to see how to DECORATE certain things! My home is already decorated to the brim with furniture because we just remodeled! Stacy, I have been a follower of yours for a couple of months now. I don't always leave comments because my time is so minimal to indulge myself. I try to hurry and visit and see what's new and lovely and then it's back to work! I had to leave a comment today! Tina brought us together in an intimate blog way! She and her blog are such a treat! Oh wow! So many images I love! I think details are the hardest part for most people mainly because they're afraid of being stuck with something. I LOVE to paint wood much to my husbands horror. I don't even think twice about it. Thanks for your nice comments! Love your blog!
