My New Color Crush: Pinks and Blues

Tuesday, August 9, 2011

I've always loved pink and blue together. Admittedly, I use those colors more in bedrooms than anywhere else, like in my daughter's room, below.  It used to be the cutest blue, green and yellow room, but when she turned five she absolutely had to have pink.  I painted pink on the walls and hated it.  I think I just never got the right shade.  Now I hate the stripes and am about to paint it pale blue (I like turquoise better, but can't use it with that rug).  So, after the walls are blue, I'm going to change the canopy to those big pink tissue paper things (I feel like I should know what they are called, but have no idea).  I might even paint the dresser hot pink.  I want the room to be more blue and pink, and less green, and I think that will help. Oh, and the pink is NO WHERE NEAR as bright as it looks here!

Because I've been thinking about her room, and pink and blue in general, I pulled together some of my favorites in this color combo, whether it be pales, brights, turquoisey or oceany with baby pink, fuschia, or hot pink, I love them all!

Would you ever use pink and blue outside of a child's room, or even braver, outside of a bedroom?

oh wow! those are some great examples of pink & blue rooms. My daughter HAD to have the pink too when she turned 5. Now she's now and we've moved onto "Coral" cuz you know "its more sophisticated mom" *sigh* (but secretly Im excited b/c I get to redecorate her room :-) )

Such pretty inspiration pictures! I love the room with the daybed and the cute elephant print. I'd be too scared I think to use pink and blue together outside of a bedroom. These pictures sure show how gorgeous it is though! Your daughter's room is going to be so pretty; I can't wait to see it!

Absolutely! Actually my living room is pink and blue and has been for over 10 years and I am still not tired of it. My plan is to freshen up the look by adding gray walls to the white, pink, and slate blue furniture and accessories.

Stacy I like what you are crushing on these days!! One of my fav combos is cobalt blue and white with pink. Preferably blue and white porcelain container with pink flowers inside. I use the cobalt blue with pink plantings in my backyard. Your daughters room is adorable. I think those pouffy hanging thingys was a perfect desription, I knew exactly what you meant. Of course we are so in tuned to eachother I probably will understand anything you say!! Have a wonderful Wednesday, sweetie,

Such a pretty colour scheme! I particularly love the deeper combinations with strong colours, although for a little girl's room the pastels are gorgeous too.

Stacy I started off saying no way can I bring myself to like this and ended your post loving it! Hows that for the powers of a former lawyer turned blogger! You DO make a compelling argument.....wow so many stunning images. You have me rethinking my little home office (which I plan to do something kind of fun and fresh with and not really in keeping with the rest of the house) Great post!

I love pink and blue together, particularly aqua. I thought your daughters room looked great, but I know how we like to change and update things that can grow tired to our own eyes. I loved that roman shade made out of bark cloth tropical print!

Where did you find the photos of the room with the daybed and the elephant photo? I would love more info about where things in that room were purchased! Thanks!
