Harlequin Fabrics and Wall Coverings

There are soooo many options to choose from in wall coverings ... how does one select the perfect wall covering?   Well, I guess I don't have an easy answer for that.   In my own house, I have mostly paint, and some modern wallpaper.   My next projects include possibly silver-leafing a ceiling (my oh-so-conservative husband will freak), and grass cloth somewhere.... guest bedroom? Inside the bookshelves? Not sure yet, but it will be somewhere. Here are some examples of some of my favorite trendy wall covering ideas:

A silver leafed ceiling that I covet:

Can you believe this one is hand made out of iron and gold?

And this one is actually fleece that is metallised.  I kid you not!

Some of the new papers have crystals in them.... love!

Ok, too weird for me, and probably everyone I know, but I had to show you this felt wall covering. Do you know what flycatchers are (or "cootie-catchers" a my kids call them)?  Kids start making them in 2nd or third grade and write funny things inside? That's exactly what this reminds me of!

Still probably not something I could use in my house, but in the right modern loft.....I'd do it in a heartbeat:

These are a bit more my style.... grasscloth wallpapers:

Oooooh, so Ralph Lauren (even though it's not)!

I also love this textured paint and wall decal:

I'm a big fan of metallic paint (you know, the more glitz and glam, the better).  Here was my first attempt at it, in the daybed nook in our basement. Not the greatest photo, but the dark gray metallic looks really cool under the recessed halogens:

Here are some better photos of metallic paints. Can you believe how shiny this first one is?  I bet you could use this as a much easier alternative to silver leaf:

I hope this helped give you some inspiration for those walls and ceilings!

I love the idea of a silver leaf ceiling too. I have that image in my inspiration file~the one with the huge chandy. I like to use a little metallic paint to highlight the details on furniture I paint as well.
