Best of the Best Designers: Phoebe Howard

Tuesday, May 31, 2011

Some people are just so talented that there aren't even words to describe it -- Phoebe Howard is one of those in my book.  The photo above is one of my favorite images ever (have I maybe said that before?) -- the curved stairway, the chandelier, the wall color, the slight view of the room off to the left... I want to see more, which I think makes it a great interior design photo.

I am in awe of this bold and beautiful use of blues in this next one.  It reminds me of some of Tobi Fairley's blue rooms.

Love the turquoise!

Many of these remind me of my favorite designer's work: Tracery Interiors in another Best of the Best post:

I'm kind of obsessed with foyers right now:

What's not to adore about this white kitchen?

Isn't this so French Antique looking? LOVE it:

This furniture reminds me of the items from my favorite store ever:

This ceiling is pretty simple, but adds so much to the room:

A MUCH more complicated ceiling, but worth every bit of hard work and expense (easy for me to say) -

I really like the furniture placement in these next three:

This reminds me of another of my favorite bathrooms ever:

The next three photos show the same room from three angles (as do many of the images above).  Isn't it amazing how different a room can look in print when photographed from different sides?  I noticed that in a recent post about my own kitchen  (where I think the look from the opposite ends is way too a dramatic a difference, but can't figure out what to do about it).

If you want more, here are some vignettes by Phoebe Howard.

Thanks for reading!!

Oh my can't wait to see more. Yes, chalk paint is so easy to distress. I do water down my second coat for easier application. Love the patina. Always used flat paint before for tat reason. The paint store salesmen always had a fit...FLAT for furniture?? YES!

We are kindred spirits, you and I! I am nuts about P Howard, have been for a long time. I think I want to BE her, or at the very least, live in one of her rooms. I love the bold wallpaper in the dining room -- the big circle motif. To die for. Love your blog and your writing style :)

Your photos of gorgeous rooms leave this retired designer/ decorative artist drooling. They're a far cry from what I concentrate on nowadays in my blog eBabyNurseryDecoration.com

I look forward to your DIY articles since I still love turning something unusable into a work of art.
