Beautiful Wall Murals for the Home

Tuesday, January 17, 2012

What better way to make a room unique and original than to add a mural?  I actually painted a huge, and I mean huge, 45' x 8' mural for my kids when I was pregnant with my second. You know, nesting instincts and all.  It was a childish underwater scene with sharks, fish, etc., along the length of the house in the finished basement.  It came out really cute, but can you believe I have no photos of it?  And of course it's gone -- I loved it, but it was so childish, so I got rid of it after a few years.  I'm very mad at myself for not taking photos.  I don't know what I was thinking. But I'll always remember my baby girl pointing at it and saying "fish" (sounding like "shish") for the first time, and using it to learn her colors.

These next two were just completed at a clients house (by a professional of course - I could never do these). Aren't they amazing? They are on the closet door in the kids' rooms, and were done by Renee MacMurray:

And look at what fellow blogger / new friend Jean at Flower Hill Design did in her walk in closet, below.

Isn't that amazing?? Go here for the reveal and here for the tutorial - you'll be impressed!

Here are some more murals photos that I've been collecting:

LOVE how the shelves are designed into this one:

Hey Stacy! I love the light blue and cream toile mural and the green one with birds and the orange chairs! A lot of the murals in dining rooms remind me of French style.

I am always amazed at the talent of these artists. My favorite are the murals in the dining rooms with the softer tones. The one from Elle Decor...fabulous!!

Such beautiful murals. Though I wouldn't put one in my main rooms of the house, I am more of paint and hang paintings kind of gal, I did just do a small mural of a stable with a horse in my daughters room by a talented local artist and it came out just beautiful.

What a beautiful post Stacy! I painted a mural in my kids' playroom downstairs that will disappear in a week...so you have inspired me to take a picture to remember it! Sorry I haven't been around much - in addition to our upcoming move (next week!) and trip, I'm having email problems so I don't get the usual prompting to view new posts on my favorite blogs like yours! I'll be back to normal when stateside but it will take a month or two...

Love them all, Stacy... As a mural artist myself (you can see my work at www.SanAntonioMurals.com), I always love seeing images like these, but I would also make a plea for everyone in this fascinating industry, and ask if you could post the name of the artist who painted the two closet-door projects for your client. As you know, interior designers and artists alike run businesses that thrive (and need) exposure! It's always a joy to see one's work credited in a blog or article, and your blog is such a great must-read, it would be an honor to be mentioned in it. I'm sure the artist who worked for your client would love it!

Thanks so much, love your blog!!

Everything looks so amazing. Omg. It took my breath away. Love it. But it looks very expensive also. I can afford it. Sad.
