We're going to use this table from Restoration Hardware:
And now I'm looking for Louis XVI style dining chairs to go with it. Restoration Hardware has some, but the husband doesn't like how weathered they are:
The thing about these huge catalog companies is, their prices are not that bad! I used to think Pottery Barn and the others were way overpriced, but as the economy has worsened, it seems their prices have come down. And now that I've been looking for chairs like this, I've found that most are $900+ whereas Pottery Barn and Restoration hardware can do them for $400-500. (In our case, the fabric selection is a problem, too, which is why I am still looking)
These came up from Wisteria in a Google search, but I was SO BUMMMED to see that they are sold out, seemingly for good. They were only $250. Sniff sniff.
And then there are these...gorgeous, no? But expensive (the first) and badly reviewed (the second).
If I had my way, they'd probably be like these, from Modani:
Haha ... Totally kidding. While I like this chair for some uses (my bedroom?), it clearly wouldn't fit with the traditional rug and farmhouse table.
So, my search continues. Please let me know if you know a source I missed!
In the meantime, here are some lovely rooms done in this style:

PS -- for those of you who think it's weird to put an expensive oriental rug under a farm table, look at these and tell me if they change your mind.... Apartment Therapy also did an article about it, here. Thanks for reading!!

I love my farmhouse table, and I have a rug similar to it under my kitchen table as well. Different chairs style chairs though. Have you looked at Ethan Allen?

I think beautiful rugs like these look great under any table and in any room. Although personally my household makes too much of a mess at the dinner table to put a rug under it!
Love the rug! and I don't think the chairs are a trend- they are and have been here to stay. Maybe check out the Universal Furniture Low Country Louis Side Chair, it's not as weathered looking.
:)
Love those chairs, I don't think they could possibly be trending, as they are a classic enjoying a revival of sorts. Have you tried Ebay or Craigslist?
Nancy and Amy...I totally agree that the chairs are not a trend. I meant more the mix of the chairs with the farm house table...you know, casual with French elegance....as the possible trend. But I got another email telling me I was crazy to call the chairs a trend, so obviously I didn't make the distinction well in the post!

I love a farmhouse table! It's nice that Restoration Hardware offers them at better prices. I think it's a trend that will last because it's practical and functional.
Hi Stacy!
I recently watched a sneak preview of episode of the High Low Project on HGTV that showed a similar look--farm house table with high end chairs. While it looked nice, it wasn't my style. I recently discovered your blog and you're doing a great job.
Niki (Riedell) D'Esopo (remember me?!)
my favorite is the last image, although I doubt those ice cream parlor chairs would be very comfortable. They look unexpected and that's attractive.
I'm doing the exact same thing but working with a designer at Safavieh. Safavieh makes the same French chair for $299 I believe. I'm changing the seat and seat back fabric to a flax linen like fabric made by Sunbrella and I'm putting a metallic leopard print on the chair back. Even with the upholstery change, the price per seat is only about $600. It's worth looking into.
