Latest Obsession: Bar Carts

Wednesday, April 18, 2012

I am going through a phase where I am totally in love with bar carts.  Like to the point of obsession.  I'm scouring Craig's List every night to find a stellar one for free, or almost free.  My chances are pretty slim, and I totally don't want to have to restore or make one over (I stink at that stuff), so I just want someone to give me theirs, basically.  Not too unreasonable, right?

Do you love them like I do?  I picture being all dressed up and having a cognac with my husband, like in old Hollywood.  Never mind that I would never drink cognac and my husband would never dress up :)  I still desperately want one like these:

I cannot blame you on that cart obsession...they are magnificent...I have an outdoor bar cart that I keep on my back porch...such a great utilitarian, yet pretty piece at the same time....I just got an idea from one of the carts you featured...I have an old A&P grocery shopping cart...has a detachable basket on top...I am definitey going to piace a top on that...! Oh...another project to add to my list!....

What I really wish I had was my moms old bar cart back in late 60's. It was like the one in one of your photos - brass and bamboo. She got it when they were the rage and I am sure got rid of it when it went out of style!
I've been keeping my eyed out for one for our patio!

I am obsessed with them too. Now I am also obsessed with art over the bar cart.

Great collection of photos (as usual). There's a real "retro" feel to some of them.

Makes me wonder how these might work in a crafts room too-lol.

I am too... I really adore that first one. You found some pretty nice ones. I am going to have to start a board of bar carts.

I LOOVE bar carts. I have a silver one that looks a little modern but I put a vintage silver tray and my nicer bottles of liquor in it to give it a vintage feel. I adore the old bamboo ones.

Yes, I love them too! They aren't something you see in Australia but now because of blogs and the www, the international images always woo me! You have posted some absolutely gorgeous examples that I'll have to save in my 'wish-list' stash!

We share the same passion here. I absolutely love bar carts. We buy every vintage one we can find to either place in a job or our shop. Some real beauties here...

Love them! And this post does sweet justice to them. Bookmarking this for sure....and plan on having one so many great ideas here. Also liked seeing how one was used next to a bath for all her girly toiletries I presume..great idea.

I don't know if I'm experiencing blog follower's overload or what, but I could swear that I remembered you contemplating purchasing a piece online and converting it to a bar cart.

If that wasn't you . . . someone found a brass & glass, double-shelved vanity online (ie. - ebay/amazon/overstock.com), They planned on removing the back and adding casters or some other simple conversion. The price was great and the plan sounded pretty great (and simple) too.

If that WAS you . . . what happened? I've been looking forward to those conversion photos.

What a fun post Stacy - I was laughing about your comments at the beginning - that's usually my take on it too - if someone would just give me a great one, I'd be all set! I love the bamboo ones the most but I really loved the black one with the red tray on top too - gorgeous! For some reason I'm not getting emails when you post, so sorry I haven't been by! I've missed seeing what you're up to!

We basically don't drink at home, just a glass of wine on special occasions. I knooowwww.. we're boring people! LOL

But I love carts and I really liked the idea of putting towels on them. See, again.. I'm that boring! LOL

Have a great day, my friend!

I too have loved the look of bar carts. Like a previous poster noted, it reminds me of the 50's and 60's social scene since drinking a cocktail at night was so vogue. Reminds me of my parents and friends hanging out listening to music. I found one at Pottery Barn for a 1/3 of the purchase price since it was a floor model. I snatched it up!

I have had a crush on bar carts for a long time now, and my dream was to find a rectangular or oval vintage one in the brass bamboo style. And I looked... but oh, the price I would have to pay - eeek! We found a vintage brass cart just before Christmas, not the bamboo we were hoping for, and actually walked away from it once. Then we did more research and realized that unless we won, were given, or miraculously acquired the cart of our dreams, this one was probably a good 2nd option for our budget right now. We had to do some tightening of all the screws, one screw broke off and that was fun to try and fix, and then a good cleaning. Every day since our purchase has been a happy smile day with no regrets. We are so glad to have given this little cart a second chance. I hope you find one, too! I think you will love every second of it!
