Never a Dull Design with Kelly Wearstler

Thursday, December 15, 2011

So I won't say that I'm in love with every single one of her designs, but I do think Kelly Wearstler's talent is undeniable.  She is fearless and I love that she pushes the envelope in a way that few are brave enough (myself included) do:

That is definitely worth repeating...never a dull design! I have not seen that first picture the kitchen and the child's room before, so that was a nice surprise!

This is seriously Kelly overload. Just when I want to say she is way too overhyped I see a big body of her work and it makes me think twice about saying that. Though her style is not my personal style I agree she is bold and fearless and its that brazen take all risks attitude that has gotten her a lot of attention and in fairness, most of it is deserved (except for her red walls in her own foyer which I think resemble a murder scene at its most grizzly....really creeps me out) But many beauties here!

Hi Stacy,
I'm on the fence when it comes to Kelly. Some of her designs are incredible, while others are a complete mystery to me. I do love the way she incorporates great artwork and sculpture into her spaces, and how she creates such spectacular sight lines.
Thanks for sharing!

Like the little girl with the little curl, when Kelly is good, she is very, very good. But when she is bad,... well, you see where I'm going with this.

Well, I've gotta admit, I'm not a fan. Simply not my style but I can appreciate that she offers another way to interpret design. To each his own.

Each room is a LOVE or a HATE, no in between! Some of those rooms I adore though!!

She's so perfect at designing for the boutique hotel market. She creates such a visual memory for guests. How can you get those emerald green leather chairs out of your mind!!!! LOVE her!

She is one talented lady! If I am not mistaken she has no formal design training. Born with pure talent. You cant always buy or learn that...

Bold and edgy..love studying the various designers style...I can see why she is among A&D's Top 100.

The first time I saw her work I thought, "Seriously??" Then the more I looked at it, I found elements and even whole rooms that I liked, but most of it is too edgy for my taste. My conclusion on her though is: hats off to someone who knows her mind and is willing to translate it boldly!

I agree with you, not every Kelly design is for me, but of the ones you shared here, there's not too many I would say no to! The first one is to die for; love the daring use of kelly green (no pun intended!); and I can't get enough of her over mix of glam with natural elements. She's amazing! This is such an inspiring post. Thank you!

Wow! I feel exhausted just scrolling through all the images!

I love her aesthetic. Many of the commercial installations were to die for, although they'd be too bold for most of my clients. Still... love 'em!

I must say... Kelly sure does like her over-sized heads, doesn't she??
