Modern baroque, neo-baroque, chic baroque, or just (anything but) plain old baroque -- I don't care what you call it, but you have to admit it's interesting.  A new networking friend of mine, LivChic, suggested that I check out her website, so I did, and I was delighted by the modern baroque style.  I have to clarify, though because I do remember that THE MOST horrid home I have ever seen was Sylvester Stallone's as featured in AD about 10 years ago.  That was baroque gone bad bad bad, in my opinion.  Sorry to be critical, but it was just SO far from what I considered appealing that I remember thinking "Who would want to live like that?"  I'm sure he'd say the same about my house :)

But when done right, baroque can actually be light and airy and romantic.  Although I haven't had occasion to design this way, I remember my grandmother had some truly lovely pieces that are scattered around relatives' houses now.  And these first pieces and rooms, from LivChic, are what I consider to be "good baroque."

Now those of you who read my posts know that I'm not really a stickler for labels. Although I certainly know a baroque mirror when I see one, I start to blur the lines between baroque and romantic after that.  So these rooms that I collected on Pinterest may not all be technically the style I am describing them in, but I think at least elements of them are, and I hope you enjoy them anyway:

Stacey I think a touch of Baroque in a room makes it interesting. I think the Belgium designs do that with the overscaled crystal chandlers and mirrors, with the otherwise rustic elements, very interesting!!! You know who does a fun take on Baroque in a fresh way is Brocade. I love their website and would love to go to their store. Take a peek if you haven't seen it. Really fun pieces. Kathysue

Amazing photos, thank you Stacy! I agree, neo baroque design adds some beautiful detail to a room. Do you know Sige Gold? It's an italian company that produces gorgeous furniture. I think you'll love it.
