Did I Ever Show You My Backyard?

Monday, May 21, 2012

I don't think I have, so here goes.  I used to have photos of the front of my house on this site, but I got some creepy emails from some guy looking to meet me, even though I told him I was married, etc.  So my police officer friend advised me to take down photos of the front and any address info.  It makes sense and I felt kind of stupid for having them up there in the first place.  Anyway, our backyard is beginning to come to life, and we've even found some new life back there.

Here is the back of the family room. This "pom pom tree" is my favorite in our whole yard. You can tell how illiterate I am about plants - I have no idea what its real name is. But I cut branches from it all spring and summer and it keeps growing and growing.

The plain looking plants get pink bell shaped flowers in June or July, therefore it is my "Bell Plant."  It's so beautiful when it blooms.  Here are the first bells coming out:

My daughter and I made this birdhouse, but I so stupidly forgot to coat it with gloss, so it ran in the rain :(  We are going to repaint it for sure:

I have a lot of flowers to buy, which will really make this look better, but for now, we are just so happy to have the pool open:

I love the brush that flowers every May:

Here are the only flowers I've bought so far:

I got these chaises last year at Ballard Designs at the end of season clearance, and we couldn't be happier with them (uh um, husband, notice there are two more to build):

Here is the pool last year, when all of the flowers were out:

Here is the side of the house, where we never go, but where things bloom best because of the shade:

And look what I found in the pool while taking photos today! At first I thought it was a leaf, and almost ignored it. But it's actually a tiny baby turtle that we saved (it would have eventually drowned, as so many little critters do when they wander in):

My daughter really, really wants to keep it, but I think I convinced her it needs to go find its Mommy. Still, this is her "I'm just about to cry" face:

We put this new deck in last year. I need a cushion for that long bench!

And a final photo with my daughter because she felt someone needed to pose in front of my favorite pom pom tree:

And my favorite and most amazing thing I've seen.  I found this in my front yard last week:

Thanks for reading!!

Your bush is not a hydrangea. It's a snowball viburnum.

Stacy...I will not show your backyard pics to my hubby!! As he is trying to convince me to have a pool built, as we have always had a pool in Florida...but I said, "it's too cold to have a pool in NC!"....ahem..and your are further north and have a pool...how great!!...So maybe I shall reconsider his request.....for a minute or two!

Your backyard is gorgeous!!...the pom-pom tree is my favorite!!!....The flowers are so beautiful, everywhere!
Your home is gorgeous inside and out!!!

I laughed out loud when I read that you have slang names for your trees and flowers! I do the same thing..." oh look at the pretty flowers on that sticky-up bush"! Whatever that means;) Beautiful grounds, enjoy!

Your daughter will of course be a fashion model! I'd recognize that stance anywhere! Bold move, trying to get a video in to your blog! One of these days, I hope to start doing more of that!

Love shingled homes!! Just love them! In my next life, there will be a backyard pool, but probably with a different husband, because this one won't give in and let me build one! So, enjoy yours!

Hi Stacy!
I love your backyard, it is absolutely gorgeous! And how big it all is, compared to our little backyard with little pond. I wish I had your pool and deck. ;-) We're still waiting for sunny days to arrive here in Belgium, but when seeing these pictures I'm already dreaming of summertime!
Love the pom-pom-tree as well, great that you call it the same! Although my dad & hubby are both passionate about gardening, I always forget the name of plants. ;-)

Sorry if I didn't come & take a peek here sooner, but Jules and I were both sick for a long time... All is better now, and I still have to get into my blogging routine.

So scary to read about that freaky guy who tried to meet you! Hope you & your family are doing ok!
You've got a great house and backyard, I absolutely love everything about it!
Love, Inge x

It's gorgeous! Love your umbrellas with the lights, and your new deck is fabulous, it's all screaming for a fun pool party! We call that a snowball bush, but maybe that's just a CO name? :)

Oh Stacy it's gorgeous - the thing I miss the most from my move is my back yard - building a small deck this summer but in the heart of the city that's all we have room for:(((
must be so beautiful to sit out at night!!!

Well dang I couldn't get your video to play maybe later. Love your backyard and I think it's cute that you know your shrubs by whatever name you've indentified them by. Your daughter is cute and so glad she saved the turtle. Looks like Mommy has done it again with her decorating outside!

Stacy,

Mother nature never disappoints us and renews herself right on schedule and gives us more. Love all plants and your backyard.

A house is just like a person with all it's needs on top of all of ours. The care and feeding of a home takes scheduling, patience, and a lot of love. Looks like you've got it covered.

Oh Stacy everything is just gorgeous! I absolutely love the style of your home and your landscaping only enhances how beautiful it is. I call my "pom pom" tree a Snowball tree but that probably isn't even the technical term for it. They sure are wonderful though aren't they? Thanks so much for sharing this with us!

Lovely backyard! I am not sure but I think your snowball plant is a Viburnum...judging from the shape and size of the leaves.
