I am BEYOND excited about this craft. It was so much fun, they're beautiful, easy for kids, and not terribly expensive. (And if I know you, you're getting one for Christmas ;)
I saw this on Pinterest the other night from A Beautiful Mess:
We had to try it. On our first try, I don't think they came out as well as the originals, but I'm committed to getting better at these!
Here is our photo journey (Ellie and me - the boys weren't interested).
I'm not going to do a tutorial because I don't think it would be fair for me to copy someone else's tutorial here. You can see it at the link at the top.
Ok - basically you just need clay:
My daughter loved this project:
Rolling the clay:
Adding some colors to bland places:
The mold:
The scissor trick:
Ready to bake:
The finished product:
Ellie's best one:
My best one:
A few tips that I can add to the original tutorial:
1. The scissor trick, alluded to above. Scraping the edges once on the mold gives a nice, clean edge. I did this on the shell shaped one, but didn't think about it for the earlier ones.
2. Adding clay pieces after it is rolled out. I was hesitant to mess with the rolled out clay, but I'm glad I did. In places where there wasn't enough color, I added bits of clay and gently rolled it a little to mix it in.
3. Rub n Buff rather than liquid leaf. It's a miracle product.
PS - Ellie is here repeating "Tell them mine's the best! Tell them mine's the best!!"
Let me know if you think you'll try this one!

Those are cute! I haven't seen those before on Pinterest. You're right that they will be a nice Christmas gift.
Sweet. Now you have Ellie started, she will want to keep playing with creative ideas and making more. Great project.
Adore these, Stacy, truly beautiful! What a great Mother/Daughter project as well!
