The House That Made Me Like Red (and Yellow)

Wednesday, November 9, 2011

I've never liked red, and haven't loved yellow for most rooms for some reason.  Even at Christmas, I use pinks more than reds because.  I don't know why I don't love red.  For clothes and bags it's fine. I dress my son in red all the time.  But for rooms, I have just never chosen it. But then I saw this house, and I started to rethink red, as an accent color, with yellow, and even with turquoise:

What do you think? I'd love to know if you like red...send me photos anytime!

Thanks for reading!!

Although this is not my style I still like some of the ideas in this house.

That chandelier is definitely a classic example of how to achieve a great effect with the simplest resources.

Its got me liking red too.....I do like red as a color but have not used it a lot in the home though my old dining room had this gorgeous French toile burnt red chinoisiere toile from Schumacher that was gorgeous......beautiful examples above, especially love that cabinet stuffed with all the old red books....that is wonderful!

I don't have any red in my home, either, and if I ever did, it would definitely to be a muted shade. Clear red tones are pretty, but not something I could live with for very long.
Have a lovely day, Stacy!

Wow Stacy all these images are the colour palette of my homeI I have always adored ochre for the walls, cream soft furnishings, something black in the room and a good splash of red. Love the books above as well.

I am like you, in that, I wear red all the time in the winter but not in my home!! I do use it during Christmas. I just tend to like more medium value colors. Now, yellow, that is one of my base colors for my home and has been for over 40 years. I love its's warmth and friendliness! The home you have profiled here is a very warm and inviting home that looks as if it has evolved over the years into a comfortable place to live. I love a home that looks like this one!! Interesting, maybe not my taste, but well done, Indeed!! xo Kathysue

I've never minded pops of red in accent pieces, but I have never been a fan of yellow, ever. And like you with red, I don't really know why. It has just never worked for me, yet I like what others do with it - for them - in their space. But I have come across rooms lately that are done in yellow, and I really, really like them. And I don't know why, I just do! So I love this post, because I totally get it!

I love red, especially as a contrast to yellow. Love the bed in the second photo with the yellow drapes.

I have a love affair with red. Though I am going to try and branch out. Thanks for sharing!

Nice. I like the way the yellow and red warm up the rooms that have neutral colored walls, and the golden yellow bedroom is so inviting. You've inspired me to add more red to the rooms where I don't already have some. Thanks for this post.

I love small accents of red especially against brown for autumn/winter styling but never been keen on red walls its too much but a few subtle agents can work. I wouldnt have themed red with yellow but these images really work well they are not my taste but they are gorgeous

Stacy, i love the red accents. The red books in the case are so interesting. I love to look at images that are creative. This designer naturally added red in a balanced way to create a beautiful room.

Know what you mean. I'm not a red person either. This is fabulous though!
