My closets are done!! This is a mini-reveal because of the photos. This is my phone camera because I lost the charger to the new camera. Already. (So. Mad.) The pictures are horrible....it's so much prettier in real life. I'll update when I get a new charger for my camera.
I was so excited to load them up that I didn't even get the shelves painted. And now I probably never will.....but that's ok, because I am so happy about this. It really wasn't even that expensive, and I can't believe I didn't do it before:
If you need a carpenter and live in MA, do yourself a favor and call this guy in the sidebar - Bryan Marcella at Marcella and Sons. I just met him this week for the first time (he was recommended by a mutual friend) and added him to my sidebar already (with no fee) because he is the best. Affordable, SO skilled, arrives on time, cleans up, etc. I can't recommend highly enough and I'm so glad I found him - it can be tough finding good contractors. And he's a super nice guy, too. ------------------------>
This picture gives a better idea of how tiny the "walk in" closet really is - 4x4 feet - so it is kind of important to maximize the space that I do have:

Another terrible one. The pinks are too pink and the whites are yellow, but you get the idea:
The other side, with the two hanging bars. Doubling the room by just adding a bar - it's about time I did this:
It's a little weird being able to see everything that I had buried before. And it's happy, but also sad, because there are things that were my mother's and things that she gave me as gifts (rather than inheritance) that bring back such strong memories. I think every single day "I can't wait to tell Mom!" before I remember that she is gone, but I've noticed I'm doing it even more the last couple of days.
Here is why:
It might be weird, but I have a lot of memories attached to shoes and bags. My mom would understand. She and my grandmother used to run into each other in shoe departments all over Boston. And when my mom and I would get separated in a department store, neither worried because we knew we'd catch up with each other near the Manolos :)
We also did this closet, which is also in the master, but is a really weird sloped shape. It's more of a utility closet (towels, fan, etc.) so it is never really going to be "styled," but I wanted to show you in case you have weird closets like these. There is a second bar at the top - It's just a few inches above the top of the photo, but nothing is hanging on it (yet):
And this is the pile for the dump. I can't wait to get rid of it, but we're getting a blizzard tomorrow so it's going to be several days at least:

Looks GREAT!! It is so gratifying to have an organized closet. I have one about 3 times a year and the rest of the year is spent messing it up, LOL. I would keep the shoe cube you have in your throw away pile for shoes outside the garage door, just in case you don't have one. Just watching your back, ;)
One (wo)man's trash is another (wo)man's treasure...that globe...:) Your closets look FANTASTIC and what a relief to have them BEFORE the storm hits. Good luck!! franki
It looks amazing! Our house came with custom closets, but they forgot the shoe storage. What was that about?! You have so many projects going on. I'm exhausted with DIY messes so I'll just live vicariously through you right now.
Redoing closets is such a high for women. We just can't seem to have enough space for all we have.
But I do beg and plead with you to NEVER throw things in the dump. If you post a "Curb Alert" in the Free section of Craigslist they will be gone the next morning. Or your area may have a "City Name" Buy, Sell and Trade you can post it on. Or just lay it out by the curb, take it to a local thrift store, donate to your neighbor for her garage sale...well you get the gist. Lol.
Hi Stacy!!
It's been so long...Sorry!!
I just did my closet when a friend came over and she took home 3 garbage bags full of things from my closet.
Having a closet that is organized works so well when we're trying to figure out what to wear or for a quick change. You did a great job!! Love that you have your Moms and Grandmother's bags. Memories!!
I hope that storm isn't as bad as they say, but, if it is, stay inside(If you can) warm and cozy!!
Please be safe!!

Wow, you look like you've really utilised the space we'll both for storage and display of your treasured items. I can't wait to get my robes done after living with clothes on temporary shop fitting rails fir a few years!
Love the rooms with some real life usable ideas.
And I love your enthusiasm for a good blizzard. Sometimes we just have to throw in the towel on routine and go with nature. It brings out our true soul.
Getting a new closet is the perfect way to decide what goes, what stays and at a glance - what you don't have enough of. I have all my clothes in order of style, then by colour - and can easily see what I haven't worn for a bit and what is needed (always fresh white shirts for me).
Glad you have given your Mother's purse the highest place of honour.
Oh my gosh...I need to do this so badly! It looks great!
Buy new matching hangers! When I renovated my closets, it was the one thing that made the biggest difference. Makes it all look so organized and gorgeous. I got the inexpensive white wooden hangers from Ikea for my closet, and went to the garment district for cool black ones for the guest rooms.
^^ Done! Got them at Marshalls but haven't hung them yet. Great minds think alike :)
My closet should look this organized!
