So I'm not one of those people who can predict the Pantone Color of the Year like 3 years in advance (hello, Carla Aston). Well, I'll take a stab at it. Let's say.... tangerine for 2014. (UPDATE: everyone is reminding me that we already had tangerine. Oh yeah. Totally forgot. So lets go with greenish yellow instead). We'll see. I gave it 3 seconds of thought, so that will be pretty amazing if I'm right! As for trends, who the heck knows what is here to stay? But I'm going to guess on the trends, very scientifically based 100% on whether I like it or not :)

Trend #1: Animal Legs on Furniture
I'm going to start with the one trend that I absolutely hate, and I don't hate many. But these animal legs drive me crazy. Do any of you like them, or do you find them creepy like I do? Bravo for creativity to whoever thought of it, but yuck for the creepyness factor. So I say they are going (and not soon enough in my opinion):

Trend #2: Faux Bois
This has been around forever I guess, but has gained in popularity lately I think. Her to stay I think. I like it, don't love it, in general, but I DO love these two subtle examples:
Trend #3: Moroccan poufs.
Love love love these. I had a client who wanted one because she had one growing up. So, based on the fact that I love them (and so do my kids - we have two. Poufs that is. Well, and kids, too), and that they have come back at least once, I say they are here to stay:
Trend #4: Faux Taxidermy
So I hate the animal legs on furniture, but I adore Faux Taxidermy. Go figure. I just think this is so cute. I'm not sure if it is here to stay (it would kind of lose it's charm if it were I think), but I do love it:

And a final funny story - We had THIS EXACT TABLE growing up! I swear to God. AND
my mother had good taste! So I don't know what she was thinking. I was
little, so maybe it was a joke and I just didn't get it. Although I don't recall my parents having money to waste on coffee tables for a joke. So who knows. Classy, eh?

I adore the faux taxidermy as well. Animals are so beautiful. I would just feel guilty having real taxidermy, the faux is a great compromise.

The pantone colour for 2012 was tangerine so I think the upcoming year(s) will be along the line of something in the yellow family.
I really hope that animal leg chairs don't trend, because we know if they do someone will put leopard or zebra print on the furniture with it. That would be so wrong.
The animal and human legs I can do with out...I just cant get use to it...its a little weird for me....

I agree 100% with you! I do like certain animal legs on antique furniture, like my grandmother's old claw-foot dinner table. But the rest... no thanks! I'm not real big on fake anything!

With you on the weird table legs, human and animal, with you on faux taxidermy (love the whimsy), neutral on the faux bois but your examples are nice and must agree on poufs. For some reason I just don't care for them. (sorry) But as a wonderful elderly neighbor of mine says "it would be boring if all the flowers in the garden were the same" meaning, our differences are what makes it exciting. Happy Easter!
I really don't like any of these trends and would not put any in my own home. But to each his own. The faux bois though I had no idea thats what it was called is pretty though.
Tangerine was the Pantone color last year, 2012 - "Tangerine Tango"
Can't stand the animal legs on furniture or anything! Love the taxidermy…but in our house it isn't faux! I grew up with the world's greatest hunter…no lie! And my boys are just like my dad! Love my animals that I have…don't want too many though! Then, that gets a bit creepy as well! LOVE your choices for the new pantone colors! I'm sure you will hit it spot on! But Carla is so good at it!
The (fake) animal legs are icky! ...Authentic antique stools...you know the ones...made in France or Bavaria, by people who killed the animal, ate its meat, and made use of the rest...well, I like them because they are real. But my views get me nowhere;) Great post Stacy!
Those poufs are so yesterday, and I ABSOLUTELY hate taxidermy. The fake ones seem OK, as I'm so violently against killing animals for sport (fun) then having the audacity to hang them up on a wall.
Those animal legs weird me out. Thanks much for the reassurance that I am not alone on the issue. The faux bois however I have warmed up to when it is a chair or table whose underpinnings are made to look like wood. Martha Stewart showed a big circular e table and a huge side table made that way and I was quite taken with the idea. Taken enough that I priced some examples. Wheeee, could not afford that!
