White, beige, and tan walls - anything but boring

Friday, February 24, 2012

I'm so sorry, I don't have a 50 Favorites for you today...but I'll be back with that next week, I promise. I'm also sorry about the formatting of this post...I'm doing it on my iPad, which is not ideal, and a lot of photos are overlapping the sidebar. Soooo frustrating!!

So, I've been thinking about painting my whole first floor white, because I love the way my kitchen looks since I did that, and I love white rooms in general.  But to tell you the truth, I'm a little scared of all white. So I started looking at "almost white" rooms.  I love how colorful a room can still be with white, beige, or otherwise neutral walls. I also love the monochromatic look shown in a lot of these, and keep going back and forth as to which look I like better:

Sometimes I think doing white/beige/neutral is more risky than color. Love the images.

If this doesn't make a heck of an argument for white and beige walls...what will!!!!!! LOVE this post...everything is so welcoming, rich, elegant, sophisticated and calming. I am all for light walls and tend to go that route for my own house (though I do enjoy a beautiful colored wall when done right) Gorgeous post Stacy!

I have never ventured away from white or beige walls so they are safe in my book. I wouldn't mind getting a little more daring but to me this is "can do no wrong" look, and I love all the pretty examples you shared.

You can do it just remember to add some texture. A touch of black in every room works really well too. I think whatever you do will be gorgeous!

Happy Friday!

I didn't need more to convince me, it's my favorite look (for now!) It's so versatile if you want to add pops of color! Beautiful rooms you've highlighted!

I have painting my walls on my "to do list", and have been strongly considering some shade of white throughout the house. So, thanks for sharing these images. Problem is, however, there are so many shades of whites that I really don't know how to choose considering that one should consider natural lighting exposure, etc.

Daring is painting super dark walls, as you did in your dining room, I believe. I've had beige walls for years. And years. I did see a post recently, somewhere, of striped ceilings! In beige tones. That's, I will try, one of these days.

BTW, your post looks great on my iPad. No overlapping. I do have regular frustration from sites I'm on, just going blank. Happen to you? Drives me crazy...er.

I have been scared to go all white too, since I posted my decision I have been dragging my butt.
Have never been afraid to paint anything in my life, black walls, no problem - all of a sudden
I am nervous! Wonder why white is so intimidating?
These are beautiful Stacy!

I tried leaving a comment earlier, but, it wouldn't let me...
I love a neutral backdrop as well. I've been considering going all white in at least one room. I read an article on Barbara Barry recently where she said that when she needs inspiration, she goes into her guest room (which is all white), with no phone or distractions, and just sits and absorbs the atmosphere. It helps to spur her creativity. I need a room like that!
Have a lovely weekend, my friend!

The nursery is so pretty.

And I'd love a ladder in my house!

These are all gorgeous rooms although I have to admit I tend to be a more colourful wall person (if not colour, then grey or a stronger neutral). I did paint my downstairs living area an off-white and it is lovely with the light pouring in, but I'll be adding colour through accessories.

If you do want to go neutral though...these rooms are stunning inspiration!

Hello Stacy!

I've been missing you, wondering how you're doing. I guess you've been busy! Are you doing your floors?

I'm also busy w/ so many things going on in my life at the moment. It never stops! :-)

I was looking at your posts and I saved so many images for my personal file. I always feel inspired by your blog. We definitely have similar tastes.

I'm also thinking about painting my main floor in a lighter color. I just finished a project where I recommended my client to use "natural wicker" by Benjamin Moore. It's a great, classic, warm color. It's not white, but a good choice when you want to end up with a light color that isn't boring.

Wishing a wonderful weekend, sweetie.

Your house is fabulous and quite an inspiration. I am wondering what you plan on doing with your stair railing? We had ours completely taken out because we did not like the oaky oak and we had our floors re-done in wide plank walnut. I love how yours turned out! That is what I was trying to get, but no go. Instead we had to replace them all. Good going to you! Congrats! You made it through a horrible week and lived to tell about it.
